It's actually a beautiful Saturday in Siren Cove. Riley wakes up before Val, leaving a note on top of a tupperware container of food:
Going on an hike with Les. I'll have my phone on me if you need anything. I've made a little something for your breakfast and lunch. xoxo
She tucks a few healing potions, a first-aid kit, a notebook, and her family's spell book into her bag before changing into shorts and a shirt she didn't care if ruined--a tunnel under the chapel didn't sound like the place to make a fashion statement anyway. She sends a text to Les, reminding him where to meet, and grabs an apple and a juice, heading out of the cottage with a grin.
About ten minutes later, Riley is waiting at a path at the edge of town, one that leads up the hill and to the old chapel. She stands there, biting into her apple and looking around for Les' familiar face.
